DESCRIPTION

SCHEDULE

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL courses focuses on knowledge and skills in the English literacy and civics areas of Digital Literacy and US Government/History. Classes offer growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening and technology in a sequence of levels.

MORNING:

High School Diploma
(HSD)

It’s never too late to earn your high school diploma! Credit Recovery, distance learning, online classes and individualized instruction offered in a friendly, supportive environment to help adults realize their lifelong objectives.

General Equivalency Diploma (GED)

Fast track to GED testing! Review the four current subject areas (Language Arts, Science, Social Science, and Math) in a supportive environment with knowledgeable instructors.

Spanish GED

Fast track to GED testing! Review the four current subject areas (Language Arts, Science, Social Science, and Math) in a supportive environment with a knowledgeable instructor.  Fee is $50 per semester.

Tuesday and Thursday —

Citizenship

The course prepares students to pass the oral and written exam for citizenship of the United States. This class is taught in English. Prerequisite: none 

Monday and Wednesday —

 Computer

Beginning Level

All classes begin on April 1, 2019.

Internet Basics on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday  11:30 AM to 12:30 PM  

This is a class for beginners to learn how to use web browsers and search engines to navigate the world wide web.  We will discuss best practices for online safety while surfing the web and submitting information. Northstar Digital Literacy Certification* is available for this class.

 

Basic Computer Skills on Monday and Tuesday 5:00 to 6:00 PM

This class is for a beginner with little or no experience with a computer or other device. Learners will practice skills such as clicking, double-clicking, scrolling, and dragging. Learners will identify devices and hardware, use a touchpad/mouse and keyboard, and navigate the desktop. We will also cover computer settings and file management.   Northstar Digital Literacy Certification* is available for this class.

$50 for first class

$25 each additional class

FREE if you are in ESL or HSD/GED at MAS and it’s your FIRST computer class.

$25 each class for ESL or HSD/GED after first free class,

Space is limited.

No new registrations after April 15.

 

* In order to earn a Northstar Digital Literacy Certification, student must pass the assessment with a score of 85% or higher.  Student must present a valid photo ID on Northstar test days. Student must attend at least 60% of classes to take the Northstar test.

 

Intermediate Level - - - Email  

Class begins on April 3, 2019.

Wednesday and Thursday 5:00 to 6:00 PM

Students will create, send, and organize email as well as open and/or attach files to the email message. Netiquette, email etiquette, will be discussed. We will identify spam and junk email as well as how to delete and/or block it. Prerequisite:Students must have a gmail account and know their gmail password by the first day of class.  Northstar Digital Literacy Certification* is available for this class.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

This is the entry-level class into the growing nursing profession. The 7-week course is fast-paced, with instruction in the classroom and practical experience learned in a clinical setting. Please click HERE for additional information.

Foundations in Hospitality

 

This Foundations in Hospitality Course is designed to help prepare students for a career in the hospitality industry or another industry that is part of the service industry to customers.  The career skills that we focus on in this course will help set the foundations for success in all aspects of students’ future career goals and plans including getting an interview, succeeding on the interview, and having success after being hired.

 

Interviews with employers at the end of the quarter!

 

$50 per quarter or Free if co-enrolled in ESL or High School Diploma.

Kitchen Fundamentals

Earn a professional Kitchen Prep Certificate while learning about sustainable hospitality and culinary arts. A hands-on course that focuses on preparing students for success in a commercial kitchen. Students will prepare for ServSafe certification, gain essential kitchen skills, and be prepared to enter the culinary workforce. Class runs for ten weeks. The cost is $75 per quarter. Limited scholarships are available.
