Registration for the 2021-2022 school year begins on Wednesday, July 28, 2021 and classes begin on Monday, August 9, 2021. 
We offer both in-person and online classes.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL courses focus on knowledge and skills in English literacy and civics units such as Healthcare, Diversity, Banking, and Education.  Classes offer growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and technology in a sequence of levels. Levels include Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.

High School Diploma
(HSD)/ GED

It’s never too late to earn your high school diploma! Individualized instruction offered in a friendly, supportive environment to help adults realize their lifelong objectives. Personalized instruction may include direct instruction, blended learning, credit recovery, and distance learning.

General Equivalency Diploma (GED)/ HiSet Test Prep

Fast track to GED or HiSet testing! Review the four current subject areas (Language Arts, Science, Social Science, and Math) in a supportive environment with knowledgeable instructors. This is an alternative high school diploma equivalence for native Spanish speakers and for native English speakers.

This class is offered in both languages.

IET: Computer English for Work 

Basic Computer Skills (1st quarter: Aug-Sept)

The last day to register for 1st quarter computer classes is August 18, 2021.

This class is for a beginner with little or no experience with a computer or other device. Learners will practice skills such as clicking, double-clicking, scrolling, and dragging. Learners will identify devices and hardware, use a touchpad/mouse and keyboard, and navigate the desktop. We will also cover computer settings and file management.  Prerequisite: None. This class offers English language support.

Internet Basics 2nd quarter: Oct-Dec 2021 Registration begins in October.

Email 3rd quarter: Jan-March 2022

4th quarter: April-May 2022  TBD

Northstar Digital Literacy Certification * is available for this class.

* In order to earn a Northstar Digital Literacy Certification, student must pass the assessment with a score of 85% or higher.  The student must present a valid photo ID on Northstar test days. The student must attend at least 60% of classes to take the Northstar test.

Computer English

for Business

Google Docs (1st quarter: Aug-Sept) The last day to register for 1st quarter computer classes is August 18, 2021.

This class is for intermediate students who want an introduction to Google docs. Learn how to enter and format text and images, use spell check, change line spacing, and copy and paste. Learn how to create a Google doc to share and collaborate with your classmates or colleagues.  Students should have a Google/Gmail account before the first day of class and be able to remember username and password to log into Google Drive. This class offers English language support.

Prerequisite: Internet Basics class or experience using Gmail.

Citizenship

This course prepares students to pass the oral and written exam for citizenship of the United States. This class is taught in English. Prerequisite: None.

Thursday from 5:00 to 6:00 PM with asynchronous assignments to be done at home.

Culinary Home Based Foods

These one-month long workshops prepare students for success in the home-based culinary enterprise. We cover homemade food business operations from concept to packaging to profit. Each month covers a different product ranging from jams to breads to pastries. At the completion of the course, earn a workshop certificate or high school diploma credit.

The last day to register for 1st quarter culinary class is August 18, 2021. Registration for 2nd Quarter class begins in October.

Family Safety in the Car

This class is for adults who have been cited by police authorities for violations related to car seats or bike helmets. Monterey Adult School has provided classes on behalf of the Monterey County Health Department for the past ten years for adults cited for violations. We provide these classes once a month on Friday evenings. There is a $45.00 fee for the class, cash, or money order. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Parent Ed

Play and Learn!

Classes for young children 0-5 years old. The focus of these classes are Parent and child interaction, parenting skills, family literacy, positive discipline, and having fun!
