All classes are online. Zoom class times are listed below. After registering, your teacher will email you with a link to the Zoom and class website. In addition, each class offers office hours and asynchronous assignments.
Tech support and Chromebooks are available for registered students.

SCHEDULE

English as a Second Language (ESL)

 

ESL courses focuses on knowledge and skills in the English literacy and civics units such as Healthcare, Diversity, Banking, and Education.  Classes offer growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening and technology in a sequence of levels. Levels include Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. 

 

  Registration for 3rd quarter begins on January 8, 2020.

 

 

MORNING:

Wednesday — 9:00 to 10:30 AM

 

EVENING:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday — 6:30 to 8:00 PM

High School Diploma
(HSD)/ GED

 

It’s never too late to earn your high school diploma! Individualized  instruction offered in a friendly, supportive environment to help adults realize their lifelong objectives. Personalized instruction may include direct instruction, blended learning, credit recovery, and distance learning.

 

MORNING:

Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday — 9:00  to 11:00 AM

 

Wednesday 9:00 to 10:30 AM

 

EVENING:

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday — 6:30 to 8:00 PM

General Equivalency Diploma (GED)/ HiSet Test Prep

 

Fast track to GED or HiSet testing! Review the four current subject areas (Language Arts, Science, Social Science, and Math) in a supportive environment with knowledgeable instructors. This is an alternative high school diploma equivalence for native Spanish speakers and for native English speakers.

This class is offered in both languages.

Citizenship

This course prepares students to pass the oral and written exam for citizenship of the United States. This class is taught in English. Prerequisite: None.

IET: Computer English for Work

Google I: Internet Basics

This is a class for beginners to learn how to use web browsers and search engines to navigate the world wide web.  We will discuss best practices for online safety while surfing the web and submitting information.



 
Northstar Digital Literacy Certification * is available for this class.
 

 

 

* In order to earn a Northstar Digital Literacy Certification, student must pass the assessment with a score of 85% or higher.  Student must present a valid photo ID on Northstar test days. Student must attend at least 60% of classes to take the Northstar test.

IET: Computer English for Business

Google II: Introduction to Google Drive

This class is for intermediate students who want an introduction to the Google Suite, Google Drive, docs, and more! Students should have a Google/gmail account before the first day of class and be able to remember username and password to log into school computer.

Culinary Home Based Foods These one-month long workshops prepare students for success in home-based culinary enterprise. We cover homemade food business operations from concept to packaging to profit. Each month covers a different product ranging from jams to breads to pastries. At the completion of the course, earn a workshop certificate or high school diploma credit.

Family Safety in the Car

 

This class is for adults who have been cited by police authorities for violations related to car seats or bike helmets. Monterey Adult School has provided classes on behalf of the Monterey County Health Department for the past ten years for adults cited for violations. We provide these classes once a month on Friday evenings. There is a $45.00 fee for the class, cash or money order. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Parent Ed

 

Play and Learn!

Classes for young children 0-5 years old. The focus of these classes are Parent and child interaction, parenting skills, family literacy, positive discipline, and having fun!
