All classes are online. Zoom class times are listed below. After registering, your teacher will email you with a link to the Zoom and class website. In addition, each class offers office hours and asynchronous assignments.

Tech support and Chromebooks are available for registered students.
 
Registration for 4th quarter begins on April 5, 2021.
Registration for ESL and computer classes has closed.
Culinary class: Spices and Herbs starts on Monday, May 3. Registration ends on May 6.
High School Diploma/High School Equivalency registration ends on Tuesday, May 11. 
Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in August.

English as a Second Language (ESL)

ESL courses focus on knowledge and skills in English literacy and civics units such as Healthcare, Diversity, Banking, and Education.  Classes offer growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and technology in a sequence of levels. Levels include Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced. 

Registration for ESL classes is closed. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year begins in August.

High School Diploma
(HSD)/ GED

It’s never too late to earn your high school diploma! Individualized instruction offered in a friendly, supportive environment to help adults realize their lifelong objectives. Personalized instruction may include direct instruction, blended learning, credit recovery, and distance learning.

Registration for High School Diploma classes will end on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in August.

General Equivalency Diploma (GED)/ HiSet Test Prep

Fast track to GED or HiSet testing! Review the four current subject areas (Language Arts, Science, Social Science, and Math) in a supportive environment with knowledgeable instructors. This is an alternative high school diploma equivalence for native Spanish speakers and for native English speakers.

This class is offered in both languages.

Registration for High School Equivalency classes will end on Tuesday, May 11, 2021. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in August.

IET: Computer English for Work 

Email

This class is for a beginner with little or no experience with a computer or other device. Students will create, send, and organize email as well as open and/or attach files to the email message. Netiquette, email etiquette, will be discussed. We will identify spam and junk email as well as how to delete and/or block it. Prerequisite:  an existing email account for each person in the class(preferably Gmail). This class offers English language support. Registration for this class ends on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in August. 

Northstar Digital Literacy Certification * is available for this class.

* In order to earn a Northstar Digital Literacy Certification, student must pass the assessment with a score of 85% or higher.  The student must present a valid photo ID on Northstar test days. The student must attend at least 60% of classes to take the Northstar test.

IET: Computer English for Bus

Diness

Google Sheets

This class is for intermediate students who want an introduction to Google Sheets, Learn how to create a Google spreadsheet to share and collaborate with your classmates or colleagues.  Students should have a Google/Gmail account before the first day of class and be able to remember username and password to log into the school computer. This class offers English language support.

Prerequisite: Internet Basics class or experience using Gmail. Registration for this class ends on Tuesday, April 13, 2021. Registration for the 2021-2022 school year will begin in August.

Citizenship

This course prepares students to pass the oral and written exam for citizenship of the United States. This class is taught in English. Prerequisite: None.

Culinary Home Based Foods

These one-month long workshops prepare students for success in the home-based culinary enterprise. We cover homemade food business operations from concept to packaging to profit. Each month covers a different product ranging from jams to breads to pastries. At the completion of the course, earn a workshop certificate or high school diploma credit.

Spices and Herbs Class begins on May 3, 2021.Registration for this class ends on May 6, 2021.

Family Safety in the Car

This class is for adults who have been cited by police authorities for violations related to car seats or bike helmets. Monterey Adult School has provided classes on behalf of the Monterey County Health Department for the past ten years for adults cited for violations. We provide these classes once a month on Friday evenings. There is a $45.00 fee for the class, cash, or money order. Personal checks and credit cards are not accepted.

Parent Ed

Play and Learn!

Classes for young children 0-5 years old. The focus of these classes are Parent and child interaction, parenting skills, family literacy, positive discipline, and having fun!
