English as a Second Language & Citizenship

ESL courses focus on knowledge and skills in English literacy and civics units such as Healthcare, Diversity, Banking, and Education. Classes offer growth in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and technology in a sequence of levels. Levels include Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced.
ESL courses offered:
Beginning 1: Introductory course to become familiar with letters, colors, and basic vocabulary words
Beginning 2: This course builds on Beginning 1, focussing on simple past, progressive, and future verb forms.
Intermediate: This course builds on Beginning 1 & 2 and introduces verb tense like present progressive, present perferct and future.
Advanced: This course focuses on more advanced verb tenses. Students learn higher level vocabulary and higher-level thinking skills.
ESL classes are offered in-person. If you would like to register for an online ESL course, please call the front office to be placed on a waiting list.

Language Skills for Child Growth & Development - Mondays | TBA
The Language Skills for Child Growth & Development class focuses on English vocabulary related to the Education Industry. Students will be assessed and given opportunities to perform specific tasks to determine their mastery of skills. This class supports language skill for MPC’s Child Growth and Development (ECED 1) offered on Monday evenings.
Language Skills for Culinary - Tuesdays and Thursdays | TBA
The Language Skills for Culinary class focuses on English vocabulary related to the Hospitality Industry. Students will be assessed and given opportunities to perform specific tasks to determine their mastery of skills. This class supports language skill for the MPC HOSP Culinary Foundations Course offered on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Seaside High School.
Language Skills for Healthcare - Monday and Tuesday | 4:30 - 5:30 PM
The Language Skills for Healthcare class focuses on English vocabulary related to the health field. Students will be assessed and given opportunities to perform specific tasks to determine their mastery of skills.

This course prepares students to pass the oral and written exam for citizenship of the United States.
This class is taught in English.
